U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) names AccuWeather as one of first Ambassadors.

AccuWeather Global Headquarters, March 28, 2014 — AccuWeather was named one of NOAA’s first Weather-Ready Nation “Ambassadors.” The initiative was started to recognize organizations committed to helping the nation be better prepared for, respond to, and recover from weather-related disasters. It was launched at the annual meeting of the American Meteorological Society in Atlanta in February.

“AccuWeather’s ability to provide valuable weather services to the nation and especially to provide weather warnings with Superior Accuracy™ to critical infrastructure like rail lines and businesses where people gather, such as production facilities and retail outlets, is further strengthened by designation in this initiative,” stated Barry Lee Myers, CEO of AccuWeather, Inc. “We are also able to assist businesses, emergency managers, and government to participate effectively and become designated ambassadors as well,” he added.

AccuWeather and NOAA have partnered for many years. The company has supported NOAA and National Weather Service (NWS) budgets in testimony and presentation before the United States Congress and with the Office of Management and Budget, as well as other federal agencies. AccuWeather has been a long time cooperation partner with NOAA and Barry Lee Myers has served as Special Advisor to three Directors of the NWS.

Conrad C. Lautenbacher, former NOAA Administrator and Under Secretary of Commerce for Atmosphere and Oceans, is a member of the AccuWeather Board of Directors and was proud that the company had achieved this designation.
